Meet Kelly
I have always been interested in human potential, how we unconsciously impose limits upon ourselves and how we move beyond them by recognizing both our strengths and our weaknesses. I spent 15 years in the field of youth development and outdoor education, helping children and young adults actualize their full potential and surprise themselves by achieving more than they thought possible. The context for this growth and learning was the natural world, both in residential camp settings and on extended wilderness treks.
Today my intention is the same: Helping individuals achieve their full potential, either moving beyond the limits of pain or mastering the skills of their artistic or athletic profession. The only difference is the context for learning. In Feldenkrais, we use movement and self awareness to discover how we limit ourselves and with curious exploration we find new possibilities.
I am passionate about sharing this integrative method with anyone interested in learning. I love to challenge the myth that growing old means becoming less mobile and in more pain. I delight in the opportunity to work with children with special needs and in the simplicity of helping someone find ease in an everyday task like looking over their shoulder without pain! I enjoy creative personalities and have worked with singers, dancers and musicians as well as the type A personalities that drive themselves to perfection. I have had the great privilege to witness wonderful change in myself and the people who come to me for support with the Feldenkrais Method. I invite you to come actualize your dreams and live life fully, intelligently and free of pain!
What led me to Feldenkrais?
As a result of my own chronic pain from an old sports injury and several knee surgeries I began a tentative exploration of the Feldenkrais Method®. Within 3 months of study, I gained range of motion and stability in my knee that I had not had for 15 years. Relieving the pain in my neck and back from years of coping with my knee, this inspired an enthusiasm for learning the method and over the last 15 years I have been a rigorous student.
Upon completing the 4 year (800 hour) Feldenkrais Guild of North America professional training program, with Arlyn Zones, I moved to California to continue mentoring with my teachers. I have an additional 1500 hours of advanced study with the leading trainers of the method, including Arlyn Zones, Elizabeth Beringer, Dennis Leri, Julie Casson Rubin, & Deborah Bowes. I have also mentored with Mia Segal, Ruthy Alon and Chava Shelhav three of Moshe Feldenkrais’ original students.
I am a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Teacher®, a Master Practitioner of the MindBody Studies Academy (Mia Segal and Leora Gastor) and a Chava Shelhav Child’Space Method Practitioner. I bring to the method 20 years of teaching and training experience. Feldenkrais empowered me to trust my inner knowing and learn from the teacher within me.
